A’ohe hana nui ka alu’ia. No task is too big when done together.
~ `Ōlelo no`eau, Hawaiian proverb
How much is needed?
Our campaign goal is $3 million.
What will it be used for?
$2 million will be used to fund the land improvements and infrastructure for the `Ele`ele Iluna subdivision where we will build 107 more affordable homes.
$1 million will be used to purchase building materials for the 107 homes.
What is the Campaign timeframe?
Prepare to Build is a three-year capital campaign. It began July 1, 2011 and concludes June 30, 2014.
Where will the money come from?
From Habitat for Humanity supporters here on Kaua`i and from those farther away who have a special interest in our island community.
$3 million is a lot of money – can you really raise that much?
We sure hope so because that is what we really need. Our $3 million goal includes:
- donations of money and stock;
- donations of specific building materials like cement, gravel, pipe;
- donations of services like clearing and grubbing land.
If donated services or materials reduce the cost of our infrastructure project, it counts towards our $3 million goal.
All you need is $3 million?
The cost of the entire subdivision project is much higher, closer to $16 million for the infrastructure and all the houses. But we have ways to finance the rest – $3 million is what we need to raise from donations.
What else should I know?
Affordable housing has tremendous positive effects for the families themselves, their neighbors, and our entire community. It’s an essential part of building a sustainable economic base for Kaua`i. This is a big project and we need everybody’s help. Read more about affordable housing and its impact on Kaua`i.
